HOW MANY WATTS DO I NEED?

A: Once again, it is difficult to provide a simple answer to this question. In order to determine your required wattage, there are several things that need to be accounted for. Depending on what you’re planning on powering with your generator, your individual power needs are going to differ from “the next guy’s.”

However, there is a simple way to estimate your wattage requirements. First, make a list of all the devices you plan on running simultaneously with your generator. Next, find out the individual wattage requirements for each device (this is usually listed in the owner’s manual or on the product itself). Calculate the total wattage required for all of your appliances. The generator that you purchase should be able to produce approximately 20-30% more than your calculation total. For a more detailed explanation, please refer to our Buying Guide.
